Frequently asked questions
Should I start as a sole trader or a limited company?
It depends on your profits, your risk and your plans. A limited company offers limited liability and often tax advantages at higher profits, but has more admin. We compare both for your situation.
When do I need to register for VAT?
You must register once your taxable turnover passes the VAT registration threshold, and you may register voluntarily before then. We can advise on whether it is worthwhile.
Can I employ myself through my company?
Directors can be paid through payroll and take dividends. The right combination depends on your circumstances, and we set it up and keep it compliant.
I live outside the UK. Can I start a UK company?
Yes, but residence, directors’ duties and tax can be complicated. We advise on both the UK and, with our India team, the Indian side.
